First American edition, first printing hardcover copy of Paddington Takes the Air by Michael Bond (Houghton Mifflin, 1971). With illustrations by Peggy Fortnum. Rare, vintage first US edition of this classic children’s novel featuring the beloved character, Paddington, who has since been the basis for many films. Jacket protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with some rubbing/scuffing to faces and shelf wear around the edges - including some chipping, creases and small tears. Tanning to jacket spine. Date stamp to front cover and to rear end paper. Boards are straight and clean but with corners slightly bumped. Binding is firm and spine remains quite straight. Foxing to top outer edge of text block and previous owner’s (blank) ex-libris sticker to front endpaper, otherwise all pages clean and unmarked. See photos for condition.
